Approach: Distinguish CCS’s letter from similar solicitations by speaking to the interests of the business owner and using a conversational tone.

June 19th, 2008 Jo Mair Mrs. Mair, Question: How can you boost Eatery on the Rock’s status as a community member and advertise directly to your client base without a costly marketing campaign? Answer: Sponsor a raffle at Catholic Community Service of Lane County’s (CCS) fourth annual fundraiser dinner with a $70 gift certificate to Eatery on the Rock. Our donors are your customers. Think of your donation as direct advertising to Eatery on the Rock’s clientele. In 2007, over 300 donors generously contributed over $50,000. We expect this year’s dinner to be the largest yet. We will use Eatery on the Rock’s gift certificate to hold a business card raffle. The information we collect will help us focus future fundraising efforts. We will thank and applaud Eatery on the Rock by displaying a 8.5 x 5.5” placard with Eatery on the Rock’s name and information on two raffle boxes. Each box will be placed in front of all our donors over the course of the evening, providing intimate publicity of Eatery on the Rock’s generosity. For a second gift certificate donation, CCS will thank Eatery on the Rock in our dinner brochure. Print advertising targeting your client base. Can you think of a better arrangement?
